Is That Worth Repairing And Painting Cars In Tiguana

Here is its, it may exist a fleck long and pic heavy...simply wanna put this info here for anyone searching the archives.  My 76 02 was in decent shape.  Some rust hither and there, minor dents and dings here and there, but more often than not direct.  I have had the car 8 years and I focused on making the car reliable and comfortable as its my daily driver.  Most of the mechanicals take been done, and the interior has been washed, and now I have come to pigment.  I am not restoring the car with an open checkbook, and so budgeting for things is required.  I don't have the luxury to drib it off, write a check and pick information technology upwardly 3 months later perfect.  My budget for a paint job was virtually $2500.  Some people told me to get a $grand paint chore and save up for a dainty $7,000 job in a few years.  Some people said don't paint it, allow it continue to deteriorate and drive it with that "patina" on it.  Others said "they knew a guy" and $ii,500 would become information technology done only when talking to most of those people, $2,500 was the starting point and when I wanted more than work done the quote double or tripled.  I searched the internet for "best inexpensive paint task" and kept coming across forums that spoke of a shop in Tijuana, Mexico.  Porsche and VW guys swore by information technology.  This shop was not on the internet and info was hard to come up by, merely I scoured and constitute some contact info.  I also contacted people on other forums and asked about how they liked the results.  Everyone I contacted had nothing simply great things to say about the piece of work and some had taken multiple cars in that location.  I did a few visits of the shop since Mexico is about a 2 hr drive for me.  My initial quote for the car was $1200.  And so it went upwards to $1500 because I wanted more piece of work done and they $1600.  I wanted a new headliner and that took it to $1750.  He quoted me 4 weeks.  The car took close to 8 weeks to get done.  I knew the progress and was in contact with the store the entire time.  They emailed me pics a number of times and I did personal visits every bit well.  I even had a few FAQers send me pics of the car when they visited.  Here is a listing of what I had them practice.

You tin can run into its about 4 shades of blueish from various inexpensive resprays over the years.  Its got tons of dents and dings and a general waviness down both sides of the car.  No console is perfectly straight,  I also have all the holes left from the Euro bumper conversion that needs to be filled.

Here are pics of it in process.

Once the prep work was done hither it is painted.

In that location was still some imperfections in the paint at this point.  Runs and orangish peel.  You could see the panels were very straight and information technology was starting to accept shape.  Here are the pics of information technology from Yesterday when I picked the automobile up.

IMG_0753.jpg IMG_0755.jpg IMG_0757.jpg IMG_0759.JPG IMG_0765.JPG IMG_0775.JPG IMG_0780.JPG IMG_0782.JPG IMG_0785.JPG IMG_0789.JPG IMG_0793.JPG IMG_0796.JPG IMG_0799.JPG IMG_0802.JPG IMG_0805.JPG IMG_0807.JPG IMG_0810.JPG _D7X4741.jpg _D7X4749.jpg _D7X4753.jpg _D7X4756.jpg _D7X4758.jpg

The results are stunning!  The panels are straight.  The colour pops.  I feel like the doors are even amend aligned.

Is information technology perfect?  Nope.  Hither is the bad....

They filled in a few too many holes...I'll take to redrill a few holes to mount the bumpers.  Non a large deal.

Mucilage everywhere.  I had to utilize goo gone on the seats, nuance, windows, shift knob.  Information technology all came off but it was yet a bit of work.

Overspray. Yup there is some overspray.  On the interior panels and specially on the trunk lock, frazzle piping.

Headliner. In one corner of the sunroof its ripped.  peradventure it can exist stitched, peradventure it'll have to be redone.

Sunroof handle alignment.  This i was an easy gear up, unscrew it and put it back on in the correct orientation.

2 Scratches on the rear quarter that will probably polish out.

Not smoothen in a few places (A pillars), when it was wet sanded information technology wasn't done as well in a few spots, still shiny there but not as smooth as the rest of the car.

Thats well-nigh it for the bad.  Nothing horrible at all, but like I said, not perfect.  If I had paid more than I would have expected all of these bug to be addressed.

Total was right at $2,000.  I gave them a bit more for some of the extra piece of work they did.  I thought it was fair.  I COULD take been a stickler to the agreement, but I knew going in that they were going to ask for a footling more by doing more than work.  They found more than rust than I thought was there and did more rust repair likewise as painting the body and air dam.

Would I recommend it?  Strong Perchance.

Why Mayhap?  Well in my stance to get the best piece of work you have to put in the time to monitor the progress and stay on top of things.  If you cannot, the results may not be to your expectation. I do not think its as unproblematic equally drib the auto off and write a cheque.  I, they don't have checks...cash only.  You have to be comfy leaving your auto in another country.  You have to be comfortable with the linguistic communication bulwark and make sure you get your expectations across.  The store itself did More than I asked.  They went above and beyond, and were swell.

Would I use them once again?  Absolutely, without a dubiousness.  More pics and more than details on my weblog....
